Case Studies

Anna
Living in a small developing country as an ex pat was always going to be daunting as a new Mom, as my knowledge of the local languages was poor and healthcare options were limited. However, this became all the more frightening when I realised that my child was experiencing a language delay at 18 months. I immediately took to google and tracked down Dr Ruth through the recommendations of another ex pat family on a parent forum. I was struck initially by how quickly Dr Ruth was able to arrange an online assessment for Anna and how she immediately engaged with her even over Zoom! Since the assessment we have been working with Dr Ruth for almost 12 months now and the difference in Anna is incredible. We started with a block of online coaching sessions twice a week alongside the online parent course at Play2Talk. We are now checking in on a monthly basis and Dr Ruth has helped us find a fantastic English speaking nanny who she has trained to implement Anna’s programme alongside us. I am now far less worried about my daughter’s development and am having the early stages of mini convserations with her! She is also starting to make friends in her nursery. I would highly recommend Dr Ruth to anyone who is having concerns about their child’s language development. She is an expert in her field and just knows instinctively how to unlock your child’s speech whilst having a lot of fun along the way!

Isa
We first had concerns about Isa’s development when he had just turned 1. He had no words at all and was not yet showing any signs of wanting to interact with us or with his brothers. We were initially concerned that he was showing all the red flags for Autism and started to go down the google rabbit hole! Thankfully we stumbled across Blue Sky and Play2Talk, but as we were based quite a distance from the London centres and nursery, we couldn’t attend these regularly. Dr Ruth was very helpful in offering us a range of options so that we could see what would be best suited to our busy family life. We opted to have our initial assessment in person at a weekend and then start with 3 months of online support. These were surprisingly more successful than we first thought they would be and Isa began to engage in a whole range of play activities that Dr Ruth helped us design that fitted his sensory profile. We took Isa out of his day care and focused those first 3 months of intervention in the home. It was a bit of a change in lifestyle for us, but after 3 months we were able to find a sympathetic local childminder who completed a Play2Talk online course and now joins us for monthly check ins with Dr Ruth. We were lucky that Isa has responded so quickly to this programme and we are now at the point where it is clear that he may not need much support in the future. We would like to encourage all parents who have these early red flags to do as much as they can as fast as they can. With this early input it’s clear that Isa has had the best opporunity to catch up with his peers.
